Garfield County has largely prevailed in a federal court legal battle with High Lonesome Ranch over whether some roads west of De Beque are open to the public, with a few lingering matters headed back to a district court for further action.
A three-judge panel for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower-court ruling in favor of the county that Garfield County Road 200, also known as North Dry Fork Road, is open to the public west of a ranch gate, as is Middle Dry Fork Road, which branches off from North Dry Fork Road farther beyond the gate.
